How do I join?
If you are interested in joining and want to be considered for this study:
- Review the information on this website, especially Step 2 (What am I being screened for?) and Step 3 (Regular Participation)
- From our list of locations find the nearest AIDA clinic that you would be able to visit
- Ask your family doctor or the physician treating you for diabetes for a referral to the nearest AIDA clinic,
- Doctor's referral to the clinic must contain information on how to contact you, including your address and telephone number(s)
- If, upon receiving the referral, the AIDA medical staff believe you may be eligible for the study, they will contact you and, if appropriate, make an appointment with you for an initial information meeting at the clinic

The aim of the Anti-Interleukin-1 in Diabetes Action trial (AIDA) study is to test the feasibility, safety/tolerability and potential efficacy of anti-IL-1 therapy in maintaining or enhancing beta-cell function in people with new-onset Type 1 diabetes. The study employs a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-masked, parallel-group, multi-centre design. Participating clinical centres are located in 11 countries throughout Europe. |
Supported by: The active drug (Kineret®) and the non active “dummy” drug are provided by Amgen. Amgen does not provide funding for the conduct of the trial or to the researchers. The expenses of the trial are funded by grants from Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, New York, USA, the world’s largest private diabetes fund. Funding also provided by Oresund Diabetes Academy and Steno Diabetes Center, Denmark. |
