How many times will I have to visit the Clinic?
During the 10 months of the trial we will need you to visit your designated centre 6 times in total for evaluation of the effect of the treatment.
The trial may be extended to a duration of 2 years with an inclusion of 160 patients in total if a promising but not statistically reliable effect is shown after 6 months of treatment. It is completely voluntary if you wish to participate in this extension.

The aim of the Anti-Interleukin-1 in Diabetes Action trial (AIDA) study is to test the feasibility, safety/tolerability and potential efficacy of anti-IL-1 therapy in maintaining or enhancing beta-cell function in people with new-onset Type 1 diabetes. The study employs a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-masked, parallel-group, multi-centre design. Participating clinical centres are located in 11 countries throughout Europe. |

The expenses of the trial are funded by grants from Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, New York, USA, the world’s largest private diabetes fund. Funding also provided by Oresund Diabetes Academy and Steno Diabetes Center, Denmark. |
